“How To Do An Essential Oils 101 Class”!

This is a copy and paste from an article I found. If it is yours, let me know. I would love to give you credit. I do not even remember where it came from… It was on a doc on my desktop.

I’d like to begin by sharing the most important factor to teaching and hosting a successful class. Ready?

Just do the stupid class.

Seriously. They aren’t that hard.

Do not spend months attempting to memorize the reference guide. Don’t agonize over what special oil-infused refreshments to serve. Do not research and debate about what giveaways and informational handouts to provide. Don’t imagine every possible question you may get and then plan appropriate answers to said imaginary questions. Not that I would do any of these things…

Here is an easy breakdown of what a basic class can consist of:

Supplies:
  • The 10 Everyday Oils in the Everyday Oils Kit
  • Cards or Graphics explaining the 10 Everyday Oils and some of their possible uses. (check out my graphics on the bottom of this page to see what I use)
  • Possibly Some YL Catalogs (if you have them, give them out at the end or they will spend the entire time flipping through the catalogs. I would.)
  • Order Forms
  • Distributor Agreements
  • A Reference Guide (if you have one – I would recommend investing in one for your own personal use anyway!)
  • Diffuser
  • As many people with real life YL testimonials as you can get to come to your class and share! If you are the only person present to share testimonials, that’s ok too – but the the more “Young Living users” you have there, the better!
  • If you would like to do a giveaway drawing, have a prize for that (citrus oils are good because they have so many uses and aren’t super expensive). Also make some drawing slips with spaces for all of their contact info and any other info you may want to gather.

Invite people. And then invite more people. And then remind the people that you invited. It’s safe to say you may only have a small portion of the people you invited actually show up, but that’s perfectly ok. God will bring you who you are supposed to have. And it’s almost never the ones you think it is going to be! ;)

Before the class begins, have the diffuser going so people say “Wow, what is that wonderful smell?!” – I use Peppermint and a citrus oil or Citrus Fresh, but feel free to use what you love! Keep in mind that the diffuser is working the whole time you are doing the class. I had a lady sign up partially because she came in with a headache and left without one!

Ok, now before you actually start the class,  burn this into your heart and your brain – You are NOT there to sell stuff.

I’m not saying this because it’s some kind of gimmick that salesmen use when they really are just trying to sell you something. And I am not saying this because it sounds like a nice thing to say. I am telling you this because it should be true. I want people to know about the benefits of pure essential oils because they need to know! I absolutely believe that there is not a single person who couldn’t benefit from them in some way. If you use them, you know that!

If your focus is just to sell oils or kits, please don’t do a class. You won’t be a benefit to anyone, most of all yourself.  It’s called a class for a reason. It’s to share and to educate.

So, now that you are there to share and to educate, tell them how you were introduced to Young Living essential oils and why you love them! Tell people why you bothered to have them show up for this and why you are so excited to tell them about what we know, but they may not know yet – that these oils are absolutely amazing, and in many cases, life changing. Tell them why you chose Young Living Oils specifically.

After my story, I start with sharing the 10 Oils in the Everyday Oils kit.  In one direction around the group I pass the actual oil for them to smell and experience, and the opposite direction I pass around the card or info sheet on that particular oil. Then I share actual testimonials on that oil. What I have used it for. What my family has used it for. What my friends have used it for. Do this for each of the 10 oils (I do Stress Away too, because it comes in the Premium Starter Kit). This section takes up 90% of the class. If you are brand new, and don’t have a personal testimonial for an oil or blend, ask the person who introduced you to Young Living, or a friend who uses the oils, if they have a testimonial. Chances are very high that they do!

Make sure your guests know that you are in no way a medical professional, but that you are simply sharing what you know has worked for yourself and others. You aren’t there to diagnose, treat, or prescribe anything.

Testimonials work. Because they are personal and they are true! How many of you started using the oils because someone you know used them and saw amazing results? I did!

You will get questions, and if you don’t know the answer tell them you don’t know. That’s a good thing. No one could possibly know everything about all of the oils, because they are so complex and amazing that there really is a big learning curve.  Tell them you will look it up for them after the class or a later time, and that you will get back to them.  Don’t let them think they would have to have a PhD in Chemistry to do an oils class or even to use the oils. You want them to know that they can do it too. Because they can. You want them to know that they can have the same resources that you have. Because they can.

Then I close by telling them what an amazing deal the Premium Starter Kit is (because, seriously, it’s like the best deal ever!) and I tell them what an idiot I was because I joined with the $40 kit then literally two weeks later bought a bunch of the same oils in the Everyday Oils kit and spent WAY more than if I had just bought the Premium Starter Kit. Yeah. Not too bright…

Make sure when you close the party they know what their options are. I personally hate it when I don’t know all of my options, and so do most people. Don’t assume or decide for them, just tell them all the info and what they would get for their money.  Then be quiet. If they have questions, they’ll ask you.

It should be fun, relaxed, and full of good basic information on pure essential oils and how to use them. No big deal, right?

This is just what I do. Twice now. I’m an expert, remember? I’m sure I will tweak this and have new and better ideas as time goes on. You can tweak this too and make it your own. It’s just a basic outline.

The important thing is to just do the class! Don’t waste time over thinking. Schedule one and do it. Then schedule another one. Share this info with as many people as you can, because they need it! Pray that God will bring people to you who need it the most, and you will be amazed how He works that out!
